RESILIENT. PLAIN. FINE.
Connewarran breeds plain bodied, fine wool merinos which are highly productive in all conditions.
Based in Southwest Victoria, our sheep must handle dry or wet summers and cold, wet, windy winters.
We produce a sound, safe animal that allows woolgrowers to pull their key profit levers: high reproductive efficiency and strong wool returns with the necessary welfare attributes.

ADD 16% TO YOUR BOTTOM LINE
We’re practical people who prioritise facts over theory. That’s why we’ve spent the best part of two decades benchmarking our sheep against the industry. The results, Connewarran sheep consistently outperform and, on average, deliver 16% more value than industry. The sheep industry loves figures and ribbons, and these things have their place, but woolgrowers operate in the real world and the proof is in the paddock. Real data, collected independently and transparently on real, commercial farms, demonstrates the value Connewarran genetics deliver to their clients.
BREEDING PHILOSOPHY
We measure, observe and analyse a great variety of data, but they all lead back to three simple principles:
-
High reproductive efficiency drives livestock trading profits and selection pressure
-
Selection pressure on sheep with good skins drives high wool returns
-
Sheep need to be fit for their environment. Structure counts. Wool type counts. Wrinkle and dag need to be minimised.
